Moving towards a plant-based food system is something we can no more avoid if we really want to talk about sustainability. Our role is to bring this issue into the debates of companies and institutions, both national and EU.
“Less animal protein more sustainability” is the claim of our MenoPerPiù (Lessformore) program. We engage with companies to create specific training on the impact of food for their workers and change menus in the canteens, introducing more plant-based options and reducing the presence of meat and animal products.
Switching to a mostly plant-based diet is the strongest tool we have to halt the climate crisis, and also solve many health problems in our society, but Italian universities are not yet aligned with this necessary choice. Our campaignengages students and ask universities to change menus in their canteens, making them at least 50% plant-based.
We cooperate with food companies and restaurant chains to introduce more plant-based options and give them more visibility. Our team and expertise can help them have options appreciated by the public.
A future protein transition, moving away from farmed animals, will definitely pass through change at the EU level. We do our part working in European coalitions to stop censorship of plant-based foods, ask for more funds to alternative proteins, or give feedback and proposals for a really sustainable food system.
